Maintain Your Cutting Board

With proper maintenance and care your cutting board can last a lifetime!

Why is Maintenance and Care Important?

The meals you prepare using your cutting board are important to you and your family. We can help you maintain your cutting board and keep it looking beautiful for years to come. If you follow the steps below, you can keep your board healthy and looking great.

1. Wash your board after each use.

It is important to keep your board clean to prevent bacteria and mold from growing on your board. The best way to wash your board is by hand with lukewarm water and dish soap. It is best to wash it after each use and dry it off with a towel or paper towel to help lessen the absorption of too much water by the wood. Be sure to wash both sides of your board and the juice groove. If you fail to wash both sides of your board the wood may swell unevenly from water absorption resulting in unwanted warping of your board. DO NOT WASH YOUR BOARD IN THE DISHWASHER!

2. Oil and Wax your Board Regularly

It is very important to keep your board hydrated with oil and sealed with wax. This step will prevent your board from drying out and eventually cracking, splitting or warping. You will need to do this on a regular basis. If you use your board on a daily basis, we recommend that you oil and wax your board at least once a month. If you use your board occasionally then you may be able to oil and wax once every few months. When you receive a board from us at Two Elm Builds, it has been coated with oil and wax. We use mineral oil for the initial finish and then top coat it with our own brand of Two Elm Builds Cutting Board Conditioner. It is a food safe and the best option for keeping your cutting board maintained. You can order your conditioner through my ETSY.COM shop by clicking the link button below.
